Los Angeles cremation costs

Last updated2026-09-143 min read

By Cremation by ZIP editorial. Comparison and education site — not a funeral home, crematory, or cemetery.

Typical cremation cost ranges for Los Angeles ZIPs and licensed funeral establishments we have checked. Estimates, not quotes.

Quick summary

ZIP 90016 is a mid-city Los Angeles postal code on this site’s Los Angeles–metro estimate band — not a citywide General Price List. The City of Los Angeles is many neighborhoods under one name. We publish several Cemetery and Funeral Bureau–checked funeral establishments in Los Angeles with separate license numbers. NFDA’s 2024 California cremation share near 70.5% does not set a 900xx package.

Ask the licensed provider for an itemized General Price List before you buy. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, you have a right to that list. Read the full consumer-rights explainer on the General Price List guide. Package definitions stay on the direct cremation and cremation vs. burial guides — this page does not reprint them.

Local planning in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is not one funeral market. Mid-city La Brea, Crenshaw, South Central, and Eastside Beverly Boulevard are different neighborhoods with different licensed establishments. Relatives may fly into LAX or Hollywood Burbank and stay far from the death location. Transfer mileage and a later hall in another neighborhood are list questions, not a single city price.

Sample ZIP 90016 is the postal code we use for the mid-city education window (NFDA 2023 national medians times the documented Los Angeles multiplier). It is not a quote for 90011, 90022, 90043, or any other 900xx ZIP. Ask the firm whose address you will actually use.

Listings a person checked on the California license search include Spalding Mortuary (FD 1121, 3045 S La Brea Ave), Harrison-Ross Mortuary on Crenshaw (FD 551, 4601 Crenshaw Blvd), Agape Funeral Home (FD 1965, 4250 S Central Ave), and Guerra & Gutierrez Mortuaries (FD 28, 5800 E Beverly Blvd). Each number is a separate license. Confirm each one on search.dca.ca.gov. We have not surveyed every licensed firm in the city.

City of Los Angeles neighborhood councils and city hall do not license funeral establishments. Cemetery plot and niche prices at municipal or private grounds are cemetery bills. This page does not publish them.

Cremation by ZIP does not operate a funeral home in the City of Los Angeles. We do not cremate, bury, or arrange services.

Paperwork and who to call

A death that occurs inside the City of Los Angeles is still a Los Angeles County vital-records registration. Use the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for a recent certified copy. CDPH-VR VS 112 is the statewide backup. Do not assume a city neighborhood office can print the certificate.

County and CDPH-VR authorized death-copy fees are published at $26 as of the January 1, 2026 tables we cite. Confirm the live fee on lavote.gov and the CDPH-VR fee page. That charge is not any of the Los Angeles listings’ cremation prices.

The Department of Medical Examiner investigates deaths under its jurisdiction. Many Los Angeles deaths never become Examiner cases. Ask the funeral establishment you hire. The Mission Road office is not a funeral home.

The FTC Funeral Rule applies at every Los Angeles funeral establishment: itemized General Price List, alternative container, outside urn.

Licensed providers in Los Angeles

Licensed listings below were checked on the public license record for the legal name and address. We do not set prices. Prices are determined by the licensed funeral home or crematory. Ask for their itemized General Price List.

Confirm a license on the California Department of Consumer Affairs license search.

Questions to take to a licensed provider

This is a shopping list, not a script that binds any firm in Los Angeles.

  1. May I have your current General Price List in writing, including the direct-cremation line?
  2. What is the price of direct cremation when we use your alternative container?
  3. If we bring an urn purchased elsewhere, what — if anything — do you charge to handle it?
  4. Which ZIP and neighborhood is your transfer starting from if the death is in 90016 versus another 900xx ZIP?
  5. Are you coordinating with a separately licensed crematory, and what is that plant’s license number?
